Our History

Viewing polished facet with 10x loupe

Early History

Initially formed in 1984 as a state sub-branch of the Australian Facetors’ Guild (AFG), itself newly founded only three years earlier in 1981, we are indebted to the work of our early Presidents, Vic Martin (1984) and Jim Hester (1985); Secretaries, Piers Foa (1984) and Tony Annear OAM (1986); and Treasurers, Bill Purves (1984) and Flo Millikoen (1986), who worked tirelessly to identify and address the specific needs of Victorian members.

Early Workshops

They were supported by early meeting and faceting workshop hosts, including Flo & Ted Millikoen (Gippsland), Hugh Antonoff (Warrandyte), Ada & Laurie Donaldson (Tanjil South), and Emma & Bill Evans (of the Old Kilmore Gaol). The first faceting workshop was held in 1987, and history has it that the current successful quarterly workshop format we enjoy today was adopted at Beechworth back in 1989.

Going from Strength to Strength

Since then, we have gone from strength to strength, and in 2015 the Victorian Facetors’ Group became fully independent of the Australian Facetors Guild.

In August of 2022, the Victorian Facetors’ Group Incorporated in Victoria, with its entity now as the Victorian Facetors’ Group Inc.
